Acton Amateur Operatic Society has celebrated its 50-year anniversary performance at The Lyceum Theatre with ‘Little Shop of Horrors, writes Claire Faulkner.
The horror comedy rock musical, written by Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken, tells the story of a strange and interesting potty mouth plant, found by florist ‘Seymour’ following a total eclipse of the sun.
Directed by Sean Johnson-Hargreaves, this production proves that a small cast can carry a big, and well loved show successfully with great results.
The cast soon overcame any first night nerves and gave great performances.
Heather Taylor played ‘Audrey’, and opposite was Sean Clark-Wilkinson as ‘Seymour’.
Chris Baker played ‘Mr Mushnick’ and Todd Bennett was the dentist ‘Prince Scrivello’.
This musical didn’t disappoint on any level.
The star of the show, was of course ‘Audrey 2’, who looked fantastic and was voiced expertly by Sam Retford and helped along by Ian Wilkinson.
The cast all sounded amazing. ‘Skid Row (Downtown)’, .’Feed Me’ and ‘Dentist’ were all brilliantly performed.
One of my favourite numbers had to be the very funny ‘Now (It’s Just the Gas)’ performed by Todd Bennett and Sean Clark-Wilkinson. It was just perfect.

‘Little Shop of Horrors’ plays until Saturday October 15.
