A level pass success at South Cheshire College

South Cheshire College students and staff are celebrating ten years of 99% or above pass rate across A Levels.

This year’s results show a pass rate of 99.1% – above the national pass rate of 98.1%.

Outstanding results were evident in Science subjects – on average, over 80% achieved high grades.

Economics, English Literature and English Language also performed very well.

The college, which takes in Crewe, Nantwich and surrounding area students, saw 76.5% who completed the A Level programme achieve A*, A, B or C grades out of 677 entries.

Of these, 48.6% attained top grades of A*-Bs.

Exceptional performances from A2 students include Alex Lam, Emma Shaw, Hannah Flusk, and Hayley Bloore, all of whom achieved a combination of 3 A*s and As across a range of subjects.

Josh Markert South Cheshire College student collects A level results

Former Ruskin High School pupil Josh Markert (pictured, above) gained 4 A*s in Economics, Government & Politics, Geography and his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

His has confirmed his place to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University of Warwick.

Josh said: “I’m really pleased with my A Level results and especially as that means I can now go on to study at University of Warwick.

“My time at South Cheshire College, and in particular on the SCC Futures, set up my opportunities for the future.

“I took part in the EPQ and Pembroke North Project which consolidated in my mind that I wanted to go to university and study the subjects I chose.”

Lucy Brierley gained AAB in Law, English Language and English Literature, securing a place at University of York to study Law.

Lucy, former Malbank High School student, said: “I am so excited to study at university and so pleased with my results.

“South Cheshire College has been brilliant.

“The teachers have been so supportive in helping me achieve these results.”

Lucy (pictured, below) took part in SCC Futures – a selection of pathways to allow students access to a tailored programme.

She added: “SCC Futures is another opportunity at the college which really helped with my UCAS application.

“I was able to talk about the short course I completed at Liverpool Hope University as well as my extra Critical Thinking subject.

“A visit to Keele University for the Law Day was such a valuable experience too.

“All of these things have helped me develop and have supported my university application.”

Barnaby O’Brien will study Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry in September at Keele University, following his BBC results in Chemistry, Biology and Theatre Studies.

Lee Smith, Vice Principal of Curriculum and Learner Support, said: “We are very proud of another set of excellent results on our A Level programme.

“The results highlight our consistency in facilitating and supporting young people in the region to achieve excellent A Level results.

“The hard work of the staff and students throughout the year has now paid off and is a chance to celebrate.

“We would like to wish all of our departing A2 students the very best for their future after South Cheshire College.”

South Cheshire College is staging Advice Days on Thursday and Friday August 25-26, where managing staff and subject tutors will be on-hand to discuss options.
