classical kids concert in st mary's church nantwich

A Nantwich mum has launched a new business to boost youngsters’ brain power – with classical music!

Andrea Clews’ Classical Kids venture plays music concerts to babies and pre-schoolers.

The mother of two-year-old twins believes classical music is good for brain development.

And judging by the success of her first concert in St Mary’s Church in Nantwich, many parents feel the same.

“It had an overwhelmingly positive response and a very large audience,” said Andrea.

The former primary school teacher came up with the idea after attending a playgroup last year.

“I found all the toddlers were more interested in watching the rehearsal for the summer lunch time concerts, rather than playing with toys!” she recalled.

“I began thinking about how I could provide a child-friendly classical concert to enable smaller children to encounter live classical music – that’s how Classical Kids came about.

“I’m now at a stage in my life where the boys are a little older and the thought of running a business is not so daunting!”

The first concert, on July 4, featured Marie MacKavanagh playing the piano, and saw more than 60 families attend with youngsters.

“It was lovely to see babies relax as they listened to the music and the older children dancing in the church aisles.

Classical Kids will run monthly at St Mary’s Church, with each month having a different theme and all being fronted by professional musicians.

The next concert will be on Monday September 12, featuring Rachel and Quentin Duerden on piano and trombone.

“There are going to be lots of interesting instruments featuring in the concerts this year – from harp to bassoon and violin to flute and many more,” added Andrea, who now lives in Crewe with her partner and twins Samuel and Alexander.

“I’m also very excited about the holiday specials where I hope families will bring along their school aged children too.

“In the October half term, there will be a young and dynamic saxophone and percussion duo.

“And on December 19, there will be a Christmas Special featuring a trio on oboe and strings and lots of Christmas music to get everyone off to a great start for the Christmas holidays!”

There will be a cost of £8 per family unit, per concert.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
