Young brownies in Nantwich are appealing for help to keep their popular Stapeley group going.
Dorothy Harris, current Brown Owl of Stapeley Brownies at Pear Tree School, is stepping down.
But there is no Brown Owl replacement lined up, which means the group’s future is in jeopardy.
In a letter to parents, Nantwich West District Commissioners Alison Green and Kat Jones said: “Unfortunately, we have been unsuccessful in finding someone who would be willing to take on this role.
“We are hopeful over the summer break we might be able to find someone able to aid us in keeping the group open and active.
“Sadly, if we cannot find anyone, the unit may have to close.”
Ginny Lewis, who helps run the group, added: “Things are kind of in the balance and all those girls will be missing out if the unit has to close.
“The team are already in place for whoever wants to lead, and full support is available.”
Stapeley mum Adele West, whose daughter Lucy attends, said: “It seems such a shame as there is often a long waiting list to attend Brownies in this area so it really does need to stay open!
“The girls have had loads of fun and more recently had a Water Sports day at Tatton Park.
“They often do activities at a subsidised rate that others just would not have chance to do.”
The group will meet again after summer on September 21. They have until October to find a new Brown Owl.
“There is full training and support available,” the commissioners added.
“We would not expect them to jump in at the deep end!”
