mornflake backs The Alex Soccer Centre

Mornflake has helped The Alex Soccer Centre in Shavington kick off a major appeal to repair its leaky roof.

The breakfast foods company in Crewe is the first to get behind a fundraising drive at soccer centre, which needs £28,000 to stop rain pouring into its changing rooms.

Built in the 1980s, the centre has encouraged thousands of South Cheshire youngsters to play football since it was founded by former Crewe Alex manager Dario Gradi.

Run as a charity, it hopes to net more support from the community as it prepares to open its doors for a school holiday club offering children supervised exercise.

Operations manager Melvin Bates said: “We are grateful to Mornflake for becoming a sponsor and being the first to make a generous donation towards our roof repairs.

“Fees paid to train and play here are ploughed back into upkeep but we don’t have the means to cover such a big repair job.

“Mornflake’s support sets the ball rolling and we hope other local businesses or anyone who has ever had any connection with the centre will follow suit and help in someway.”

The centre is run as a charity by the Alexandra Soccer & Community Association.

It welcomes more than 1,000 budding young players for training each week and is home to the adult league which plays throughout the summer months.

Staff and volunteers, armed with mops and buckets, kept on top of the roof problems during the wet spring months but dread rainy months ahead.

Melvin added: “We’ve applied for Football Foundation funding but will need to match any amount granted.

“Mornflake’s support gets the appeal going and raises awareness of our situation.”

Mornflake, shirt sponsors of Crewe Alexandra, supports various local community organisations and clubs.

Brand manager Hannah Smith said: “We’re all about making healthy lifestyle choices.

“Our Go! protein porridge was specially devised to support an active lifestyle and has become a winner with people who understand how it aids muscle repair after exercise.

“It was our pleasure to help the soccer centre which encourages children to develop a life-long love of exercise whether football fans or not.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
