The route and timings for when the Tour of Britain cycling race passes through Nantwich have been released.

Cheshire East will host Stage 3 of the race, which attracts some of the biggest names of the sport in the world, on September 6.

The 111-mile route will start in Congleton, and pass through Alsager, Crewe, Nantwich, Middlewich, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Knutsford, Macclesfield and finish in Tatton Park.

The leading cyclists will arrive in Nantwich along the A534 Crewe Road, past the Peacock pub and roundabout, at about midday on September 6.

From there, they will race down Crewe Road to the roundabout, turning right into Millstone Lane.

They will continue past Barony Park along Barony Road, up to the Reaseheath roundabout, before turning into B5074 Main Road and racing north towards Church Minshull.

Then they will turn right into Cross Lane and Brookhouse Lane, before re-joining the A530 Middlewich Road and head towards Middlewich.

Cheshire East is looking for 10 volunteers to help at the event on September 6.

Andrew Latham, from Cheshire East, said: “All volunteers can discover more about the tour and register their interest at www.cheshiretourofbritain.co.uk and click on “Get Involved/Volunteers”

“The timings for each area have been released, although these are approximate unless the route changes then these are likely to be confirmed after the final route drive on August 9.”

Cheshire East Council is using the Tour of Britain to support Public Health England’s “One You” campaign encouraging residents to make lifestyle changes.

Councillor Paul Bates, Cabinet member for communities and health, said: “Everyone in the borough should be rightly proud the Tour of Britain is coming to Cheshire East but we don’t want it to end there.

“Knowing there will be hundreds of dedicated professional cyclists coming through our towns and villages needs to be a starting point rather than the end of the journey.

“So get out there, do your bit and enjoy a fabulous summer!”

Dr Heather Grimbaldeston, director of Public Health for Cheshire East, said: “In our increasingly busy lives, it is sometimes difficult to find time to think about our overall health, especially when it doesn’t always appear that there might be a specific reason to do so.

“We realise this is the case and so we are doing more to signpost people towards information and resources that could be very beneficial to them.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
