A Nantwich woman injured in an incident with a train at Willaston level crossing, has suffered multiple fractures.
It’s believed the 46-year-old was struck by a train on the crossing, breaking her arm in several places.
She was taken by air ambulance to hospital after yesterday’s (July 25) incident, where she is awaiting surgery.
It’s not clear how the accident happened, or whether warning signals or barriers were in operation. British Transport Police are investigating.
The victim’s husband Gavin Casey said today: “My wife is ok.
“She broke her left arm in several places and has an open fracture.. awaiting surgery.
“Thank you all very much for your concern and thank you to the resident who provided a hammer and crow bar to break the lock off the gate for the air ambulance to gain access.”
British Transport Police, North West Ambulance Service paramedics and air ambulance attended the incident.
A BASICS North West doctor later tweeted how he had been first on the scene at the “railway incident in Willaston near Nantwich”.
He also said he “worked with NWAS crews and West Midlands Helimed”.
The air ambulance landed at the Willaston White Star pitch off Tricketts Lane.
Nantwichnews has contacted British Transport Police and are waiting on updates in the investigation.
A facts… the incident did NOT happen on the crossing, it happened 100 to 200 yards beyond the crossing, behind Scanlans on Tricketts Lane. Therefore the lady was clearly trespassing. She should be prosecuted for trespass and liable for the costs of the emergency services.
The train driver is the one who suffers in this situation. You cannot begin to imagine what it must be like to see a person standing next to the track and there is no way to stop the train in time. Train drivers have a professional job but in circumstances like this, it is the poor driver who has to live with the sight of seeing irresponsible people on the railway when they should not be there and endangering the lives of others.
Such a clever man aren’t you! The person injured was my wife. Yes I agree with the majority of your statement but to prosecute her for trespassing when her mental state was compromised and wanted to end her life is something out of her control at the time of her thoughts.
I apologise for what she has done but seriously man – get a grip on reality unless you are going to say you a god damn phyciatric doctor now? Not just the driver affected, I am too and so is my family!
Hope your wife makes a full recovery and hope that you and your family recover from this terrible incident.
for those saying think about the womens mental state is wrong luckily things turned out ok but if things had been fatal imagine the affect this would have on the driver and passengers , this was a very selfish act that could of left people affected in a bad way
Maybe, but don’t forget that between there and Nantwich station, there are also at least two foot-crossings accessed via styles (one with limited views on a bend) and once you’re through the non-controlled, non-locking gate, you’re on your own.
The CCTV tapes from Gresty box will no doubt shed some light onto the investigation, whatever the reasons glad she was not picked up in a bag,but please let us spare a thought for the driver!
Let me guess – someone couldn’t be bothered waiting for the train to pass and pushed through the barriers? That crossing has the full barriers that come down across the entire road, so you would have to deliberately push your way through the to cross whilst they are down.
You are wrong on so many levels – how about the mental state of the woman.. think before you comment before your silly comments cause more upset to the poor woman!
Agreed. AP= short for ‘A Pratt’!!!
