fly tippers at nantwich riverside

Fly-tippers who dumped this junk at a Nantwich beauty spot have been slammed by councillors.

Volunteers for the Nantwich Litter Group stumbled across this pile of rubbish at Coed Wen, part of the Riverside park in Nantwich.

The group contacted ANSA, the Cheshire East Council street cleaning organisation, who responded swiftly to clear it away.

“ANSA dealt with this swiftly, but fly-tipping continues to be an issue,” Nantwich Town Council clerk Ian Hope told councillors.

“When Nantwich Litter Group comes across this sort of thing, it is beyond their scope.”

Cllr John Lewis, who lives near the Riverside Park, said he hoped this scale of incident was a “one off”.

“Thankfully it’s not a common thing down there. It’s only recently we’ve had a complaint, and I do hope this is a one-off,” he added.

Anyone caught fly-tipping illegally could face a £50,000 fine of prison.

Cheshire East Council states: “We will usually arrange for reported waste to be removed within 48 working hours.

“It may take longer if the waste contains asbestos, clinical or other hazardous wastes as special arrangements need to be made for such waste.

“We seek to prosecute if the offender can be identified from the waste and/or where there are witness statements.”

You can report incidents of fly-tipping to Cheshire East Council Environmental Health Team on 0300 123 5015, or large scale incidents to the Environment Agency 24-hour hotline on 0800 807060

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Looks like it is from a recent building refurbishment, might jog someone’s memory if the photo was helpfully clearer, with a contents description.

  2. Not everyone has a conscience. Many are motivated purely by cash. Maybe CEC should be looking at its charges for commercial waste disposal which may well have a bearing on fly-tipping. When all is said and done, CEC will now have to clear up the mess at its own own expense. What is gained from that?
