Nantwich Town forward Steve Jones has set his goals for the year as he looks to start his second season with the Dabbers, writes Richard Scott.
The former Northern Ireland international scored nine goals last campaign and is hoping to beat that next season as well as get in the top six.
He also gave his thoughts on whether the club will miss fellow striker Aaron Burns.
Jones, a former Crewe Alexandrea favourite, said: “I don’t think we missed him second half of the season. We were scoring as a team, just conceded more, which was a bit disappointing.
“ But the manager has addressed that this year and a good group of players have come in and there is a good camaraderie and I think we will do well.
“I want to be a winner and my standards are high this year. Hopefully, we can make the play offs this year and get this club where it should be.
“But my main aim is to get above 10 goals for this season.”
The 38-year-old has had a busy summer which has seen him take his top coaching badges and will be hoping to use that at the Weaver Stadium.
He added: “I’ve done my A licence now and will take the forwards for a few sessions this year and give them a bit of my knowledge and wisdom on where their runs should be.
“Obviously, they don’t always have to break their neck, they can place it in and where their runs should be as well as what their roles are really.”
But despite getting his badges, Jones is hoping to play on for as long as he can.
He said: “I’ve done my badges now.
“But obviously I am still going to play for as long as I can, which, touch wood, will continue for another couple of years.
“Then hopefully I will get a coaching role somewhere, get in there and coach the strikers.”
