One of the busiest stretches of road in Crewe and Nantwich is to close for all of half-term week for electrical work.

Nantwich Road outside Crewe railway station will be closed for five days to allow Scottish Power Energy Networks to carry out the works.

They need to divert some electricity cables under Crewe Arms roundabout, which are currently in a very poor condition.

Thousands of drivers who use that road each day will be diverted but are being warned that the closure will may cause severe delays on a number of routes.

Cheshire East Council says traffic moving along Nantwich Road out of Crewe, towards the roundabout, will be diverted for the full five days from February 16 to 20.

Vehicles heading towards Nantwich, from the Crewe Arms roundabout, will be diverted overnight from 7pm until 6am for the same period.

Diversions are along Mill Street, Edleston Road, Vernon Way, Earle Street and Macon Way.

There is a separate diversion for heavy goods vehicles, due to low bridges on Gresty Road and Mill Street, which will be marked.

Taxis and emergency vehicles will be able to access the railway station.

The council says it requested the work take place during half term to “keep disruption to a minimum”.

Virgin Trains (Crewe Rail Station), Tesco Express, Crewe Arms Hotel, Crewe Fire Station and the businesses directly affected by the closure have been contacted.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. Wow! This area is a nightmare at the best of times. We may be about to break records for the most havoc caused by roadworks.
