After Tough Mudder - Laura Atkinson

A Nantwich vet helped to raise hundreds of pounds for poorly children at Alder Hey Hospital – by caking herself in mud!

Laura Atkinson, from Aston, completed the “Tough Mudder” course at Cholmondeley Castle to help raise £550 for the hospital.

And the mother-of-three, who works as a veterinary surgeon for CheshirePet in Sandbach, described the course as “one of the most exhilarating, daring and painful” challenges she has ever undertaken.

Tough Mudder is an army style assault course combining a half marathon run with obstacles and a great deal of mud.

Laura completed the course with her two friends Julie Ferguson and Helen May.

And her day job caring for all manner of animals couldn’t have been more different to what she faced on the hard core obstacle course.

She said: “One of the challenges was the ‘electric shock cables’ which we had to run through and the shocks really hurt!

“Every obstacle was a daunting prospect but there was such camaraderie among the runners and everyone helped each other get through it.

“It was a one-off and I am so pleased that we did it.

“We were motivated by raising money for Alder Hey and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored us.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
