Danny Johnson, Nantwich Town boss Oct 2013

A second half goal from Aaron Burns on his return to Nantwich Town wasn’t enough for the Dabbers away at Kings Lynn Town, writes Richard Scott.

Nantwich were beaten 2-1 away after the long trip to East Anglia on Non-League Day.

The hosts were 2-0 up in the first half with two goals in a four-minute spell.

A fluke goal from Jackson Ramm opened the scoring and a second from George Thomson was enough to win the points for the hosts.

Nantwich started the game brightly and had the first chance of the game when Burns chased a back pass down and crossed it to Mukendi but his goal bound effort was cleared off the line.

Burns, who had rejoined the Dabbers from Marine in the week, made a great start to the game and on nine minutes, he tried an overhead kick, but it went inches wide of Alex Street’s goal.

Nantwich goalkeeper Terry Smith was involved in an incident on 15 minutes when the keeper went to clear the ball.

Kings Lynn forward Michael Frew caught the keeper, which saw the Linnets forward getting cautioned.

As the half went on the hosts got into the game, the Linnet’s number two Ramm hit a 30-yard shot over Smith’s bar.

Just moments later, Ramm opened the scoring on 29 minutes when he found himself on the byline.

He aimed a cross into the area, but the ball started moving towards the goal and dipped into the back of the net to put the hosts ahead.

Just four minutes later it was 2-0 when Thomson managed to force his way through the Nantwich defence and beat Smith to double the lead.

The Dabbers could have got themselves back into the game with a few minutes of the half to go, when a corner found Adam Jones, but the defender headed wide of the goal.

At half time boss Danny Johnson brought on experienced striker Steve Jones for Mukendi. Jones was making a return to the team after an injury at the start of the season.

After a couple of free kicks for the Dabbers, Alex Meaney had a chance to score on 53 minutes when he went through on goal, but the midfielder hit his effort wide of the goal.

Minutes later a Meaney corner was flapped at by Street, before the Linnets keeper chased after the ball and managed to clear it with defender Sam Wilson on his tail trying to force an error.

Just before the hour mark and the Dabbers pulled a goal back when Andy White managed to get his cross in and Burns slotted the ball in past Street to make it 2-1.

With 15 minutes to go, Burns could have had a second when he almost went through on goal.

The hosts should have made it 3-1 with less then 10 minutes to go when White lost possession to Thomson, but he couldn’t add to his earlier goal of the game with his shot going straight at Smith.

Mark Jones had the final chance of the game when with five minutes to go the Dabbers skipper had a shot that went just over the bar.

It was a battling performance by the players but they couldn’t get at least a point back to Cheshire. The Dabbers are next in action on Tuesday as they welcome Grantham to the Weaver Stadium.
