HGV hay fire on A500 nr Nantwich

This is the devastation caused by a lorry fire which closed the A500 for most of yesterday (July 24).

These pictures show the after-math of the HGV blaze on the westbound side of the A500 between the A5020 and the Shavington turn-off.

The main route between Nantwich and the M6 was closed in both directions for many hours, causing problems for hundreds of drivers.

Fire crews from Nantwich, Crewe and Sandbach were called out shortly after 2pm to the fire involving a HGV carrying 20 tonnes of hay.

Police closed both carriageways of the dual carriageway, only re-opening one lane at around 5.30pm.

Fire crews and Cheshire East highways teams were on the scene until 12.30am today (July 25) damping down and assessing damage to the road.

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
