A lorry driver has been sentenced over a horror M6 motorway smash involving nine vehicles near junction 16 for Nantwich.

Barry Powell, 62, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.

The incident happened on Monday 10 December 2012, as reported by Nantwichnews, and led to many injuries and several hours of tailbacks on the motorway in Cheshire.

Powell was driving a HGV on the M6 southbound, close to junction 16, when he collided with slowing traffic.

Eleven people were injured in the accident which involved two HGVs, two vans, and five cars.

Mr Bullock, aged 54, from the Blackpool area, died at the scene from his injuries.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Powell, of Coleshill, Warwickshire, also received a two-year driving ban and was ordered to undertake 300 hours community service.
