A51 Bypass crash

A cyclist who was seriously injured in a road smash on the A51 near Nantwich has died in hospital, police confirmed.

The 42-year-old was involved in a collision with a car close to the Boar’s Head pub on the A51 at Walgherton, south of Nantwich.

Police closed the road and he was taken to Leighton Hospital shortly after the incident at around 7.50am on Thursday (June 26).

However, despite efforts by medical teams, the victim, from Market Drayton, later died.

Police are appealing for witnesses. The accident happened at a busy peak morning time with many travelling to school and work.

Officers from Cheshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing their investigation.

Any potential witnesses should phone them on 101 and quote incident 117 of 26th June 2014.
