Manchester United star Nick Powell has been banned after being caught drink driving in a Vauxhall Corsa in Nantwich.

The 20-year-old former Crewe Alexandra midfielder was caught over the alcohol limit in Davenport Avenue.

Powell,  currently on loan at Wigan Athletic,  appeared before South Cheshire magistrates in Crewe yesterday (May 12).

Officers pulled over the footballer’s red Corsa on Davenport Avenue at 3.15am on Sunday April 20.

Patrols had spotted the vehicle travelling down the road with no lights on.

Powell was breathalysed and found to have 54mg of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

He pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before magistrates. He was fined £5,000 and banned from driving for 14 months.

Powell was left out of Wigan’s play-off second leg tie against QPR last night (May 12). Wigan lost on aggregate, 2-1.

The midfielder, from Haslington, joined Manchester United from Crewe in late 2012.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
