Green-fingered volunteers across Nantwich and Crewe have helped transform a garden at Leighton Hospital.

A team, which included students from Reaseheath College, spent a day weeding, pruning and painting at the coronary care unit garden.

And the volunteers, which is also made up of the Enterprise Education Alliance and the Cheshire East Youth Team, have transformed the outdoor space which is run for the unit’s patients.

Emma Clarke, voluntary services manager at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the Crewe-based hospital, was delighted with the success of the project.

She said: “We are very fortunate to have a dedicated team of volunteers at the hospital who come in on a regular basis.

“But sometimes we have projects like the coronary care garden that are suited to specific community groups.

“The Trust would like to thank all those who gave so generously to help achieve this project.

“From the volunteers of all ages who gave up their free time to the staff members and Minshull Garden Centre, who contributed plants to be put in the newly prepared garden.

“It was great to see so many young people who were willing to get involved and it was a nice reminder that there are many young adults in our community who care and want to give something back.”

Future projects are set to include work on the garden areas for the stroke ward, the rehabilitation ward and critical care unit.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
