Crewe & Nantwich RUFC maintained their push for promotion with a solid 32-13 victory away at Wolverhampton.
But the hosts proved to be difficult opponents and not like a side who had only played once in eight weeks because of the weather.
Both teams tried to assert their forward power from the start, and with Crewe playing against the wind they struggled early on to gain field position.
The hosts opened the scoring when their full-back dived over for an unconverted try.
Crewe then went up the gears and started to provide lively scrumhalf Scott Cann with quality ball.
The forwards produced a scrum in the Wolverhampton 22 and No 8 Kirk Robinson powered through the defence to score an unconverted try.
Wolverhampton replied with a penalty, but Crewe hit back as quick hands from the backs allowed centre Joe Gammage (pictured) to score a fine try on the overlap, converted by Jamie Little.
Wing Tim Cowap then cut through several defenders running a great line to score a third for the visitors, to make it 17-8 at the break.
Ten minutes after the restart, flanker Josh Collins smashed through the Wolverhampton forwards to score near the posts.
Little then kicked a penalty and Crewe secured victory when a line break from 2nd row Jack Brooks saw an offload to Little who drew the Wolves full-back and passed to Gammage for his second try.
The hosts scored a late consolation breakaway try.
Next week, Crewe & Nantwich face a massive test when they travel to league leaders Leek for a Midlands 2 West (North) top of the table clash.
