Fire crews from Nantwich and Crewe battled a major house blaze in Shavington today (January 15).

The fire broke out at a detached property on Newcastle Road, with fears that people were trapped inside.

Police had to close off surrounding roads, from Newcastle Road junction with Heymoor Green Lane, and Newcastle Road junction with Crewe Road.

The property was found to be fully smoke-logged and six firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a covering jet to fight the blaze.

A high pressure fan was also set up to ventilate smoke the property.

All residents of the property were accounted for and escaped without injury.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is to carried out by fire investigation officers at Cheshire Fire and Rescue.
