Work on a new intensive care building for Leighton Hospital’s Crewe and Nantwich patients has reached a landmark.

The building, which will house new operating theatres and ICU facilities, has now been declared officially watertight.

When open, it will offer eight state-of-the-art theatres and 14 critical care beds, which hospital trust bosses say is a significant step forward in quality and safety of care to patients.

Tracy Bullock, chief executive of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Although building work only started in January this year, to have reached this stage already is fantastic, not only for the Trust but for the local community.

“Once opened early next year, these new facilities will enable us to provide more efficient and effective treatment in modern surroundings, and generally improve the overall hospital experience for our patients.”

External partners joined staff from the existing theatres and intensive care unit to tour the new building and see first-hand progress being made.

There was also an information session for all staff to speak with members of the project team and to find out more about some of the new equipment and IT systems that are set to be installed in the building.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
