The Size of a Cow wasn’t relevant when The Wonder Stuff lead singer rolled into Nantwich for the Jazz, Blues and Music Festival.

Miles Hunt, frontman of the massively popular late 80s/early 90s band, performed live with violinist Erica Nockalls at Nantwich Civic Hall.

And despite a conscious decision to avoid playing the one song that arguably made them a household name more than 20 years ago, Hunt produced a fine medley of old and new to keep a packed audience satisfied.

The Wonder Stuff are still going strong as a band, but as  Hunt explained the other members were out and about “doing their own stuff” last night (Friday March 29).

So it was left to the duo who live in Shropshire to entertain a Civic Hall audience for the best part of 90 minutes.

Hunt’s punchy guitar chords and distinctive vocals transported those of us in our 40s back a couple of decades to when the band were touring the globe and bashing out massive chart hits.

Lady-in-red Erica’s violin brought a touch of class and spice to the acoustic collection, as well as a touch of youthful glamour away from the frizzy-haired middle-aged grump with the mic.

The duo have churned out a couple of albums in the past five or six years, and toured around the UK to much acclaim, and on this performance it’s easy to see why.

His inter-song banter was warmly welcomed, as fans lapped up the amusing, pithy anecdotes that accompanied songs like The Cake and Oh No.

Although Hunt was rightly the big draw on the night, the audience without doubt welcomed support act Heidi Browne with as much enthusiasm and appreciation.

The 27-year-old’s beautiful collection of jazzy songs left many in the audience in awe of her exceptional voice and dextrous finger-plucking guitar skills.

With younger brother and dad in the backing band, the Market Drayton starlet demonstrated why she is a fast emerging talent who has the potential to be a massive hit.

She was the perfect warm-up act, a stunning hour-long set which captivated the crowd.

Browne found the balance in entertaining but not overshadowing the main act. On this showing, she will be the headline very soon.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
