Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

By Claire Faulkner
The warning on the leaflet ‘may contain some Middle English’, didn’t put me off – or those who stood with me in the cold waiting to get into The Lyceum in Crewe.

We were there to see ‘Finding Chaucer’s Voice’, the latest production from the Cheshire East Youth Theatre in partnership with Contact Theatre.

The production took the audience on a wonderful storytelling journey to Canterbury cleverly utilising different parts of the theatre whilst telling a number of tales.

From the very start it proved to be a wonderful piece of innovative and imaginative theatre. Traditional story telling mixed with contemporary multi media and of course, some middle English.

The performers were all aged between 5 – 16 and did extremely well presenting their own versions of some of Canterbury Tales.

Different characters including The Wife of Bath, The Knight and The Pardoner led the audience around the theatre, telling stories in different locations.

It is always great to see new and interesting theatre, and even better when it involves local organisations who are encouraging the younger members of community to get involved.

Kids, you were all great. Congratulations to all those involved.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
