school bus route axed - walking route to Malbank through London Road level crossing in Nantwich

A woman in her 80s was injured after being hit by a train on the London Road level crossing in Nantwich.

The accident happened as the elderly victim was walking across the crossing at around 2.30pm today (January 22).

The train came to a stop at the scene and remained there for some time.

British Transport Police said the woman was found conscious and paramedics were quickly on the scene to treat her.

A spokesman said it is believed she suffered a “glancing blow” and received arm injuries.

“We attended with colleagues from Cheshire Police and North West Ambulance Service,” he added

“The elderly lady has been taken to North Staffs Hospital with an arm injury, and this does not appear to be life-threatening.

“We are now working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and have informed the rail accident investigation branch.”

The train involved was an Arriva Trains Wales Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly service which had just left Nantwich station.

The accident caused long delays on the busy road in and out of Nantwich town centre.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. I hope the lady is making good progress. I was also a passenger on that train. Best wishes for a good recovery.

I was on this train, that poor old girl.

  4. Hopefully the Lady recovers well.

It’s about time they now got some better barriers on that crossing.

    • I think that is an over reaction. More people, by far, are killed at pedestrian crossings. Do you think that pedestrian crossings should have barriers at them to stop vehicles when people are crossing? What about traffic lights? Every now and then motorists cross them at red, should they have barriers as well? They would certainly save more lives.

The instructions at level crossings are clearly displayed, it’s up to people to follow them.
