A Nantwich pub is launching a campaign to help provide bedtime packs to child carers aged 5 to 12.

The Peacock, Crewe Road, Willaston, is joining in “The Pyjama Project” in National Storytelling Week, January 26 to February 2.

It urges people to donate children’s pyjamas or bedtime books throughout the week, which will then be gifted to Honeypot charity which provides respite breaks for vulnerable children and young carers.

Amy Garrett, The Peacock marketing executive, said: “A bedtime read is one of the most magical times during childhood, but with 13,000 child carers caring for more than 50 hours a week each, these are children who all too often miss out on the wonder of storytelling.

“The Pyjama Project has been launched so when the kids come to Honeypot for some much needed respite, they’ll be given a Bedtime Pack with a pair of new pyjamas, a bedtime book and a cuddly toy which they can also take home with them.

“The idea is to give these kids a bit of much needed TLC.”

More than half of young carers live in one-parent families and almost a third care for someone with mental health problems.

The charity supports children like six-year-old Daniel, who has no contact with his father and lives with his mother, who drinks heavily. He often goes hungry and misses school.

“For children like Daniel, the simple joy of a book at bedtime is not the fun, regular routine that many youngsters enjoy,” Amy added.

“By donating sleepwear and books we can help these child carers escape into their imaginations and to feel loved and looked after.”

The Peacock will also be holding pyjama parties throughout the week k to raise extra funds.

Anyone wishing to buy a pair of pyjamas (boys or girls – any age between 5 and 12) or donate good condition children’s books can hand them in at the pub any time before February 2.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
