A new service is being launched for Nantwich veterans who need help for drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, money, family or housing problems.

“Live At Ease” aims to support 70,000 ex-forces personnel and their families living in Cheshire so they can cope with issues during or after working in the services.

The project has been commissioned and funded by Central and Eastern Cheshire NHS Primary Care Trust, based in Nantwich, and covers the North West.

It will work with other agencies in Nantwich including Nantwich Jobcentre Plus and the Nantwich & District branch of the Royal British Legion.

It pulls together services offered by military organisations and charities, voluntary groups, NHS and Probation Service and provides one point of contact for veterans seeking help.

Research shows treatment for conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and depression were much more effective among the ex-forces community if a range of welfare issues were dealt with first.

These practical and emotional issues often arise when people make the switch from service to ‘civvy street’.

Michael True, head of service for Live At Ease, said: “Cheshire is home to over 70,000 veterans – nearly one sixth of the region’s ex-forces population.

“Research shows many of these veterans find the transition to civvy street challenging. Live At Ease provides immediate support to help with these practical and emotional challenges.

“If they aren’t addressed they can often lead to long term physical and mental health problems.”

Anyone who served in the forces and lives in the North West can use the programme, which is also available to their families.

Clients get a dedicated caseworker who puts a support plan together and ensures they quickly get the right support.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
