Steve's Cycles, Nantwich

The owner of a cycle business is opening up in Nantwich to escape recession-hit South Wales, he revealed.

Steve Giles has converted an old garage at the Regents Park development off London Road into “Steve’s Cycles”.

The business sells new and second hand bikes, as well as carrying out repairs and maintenance.

Steve, 52, said he relocated to Regents Park after a year at a unit on Wettenhall Road, near Poole.

After almost 10 years in the business, he moved to Cheshire 12 months ago to escape South Wales which he says has been hit badly by the recession.

“It was horrendous down there,” he said. “It was like someone had switched the mains off, it was that sudden.

“They also built a bypass around the town which killed off trade. I had a 1,500 sq ft unit, it’s been empty since I left, and they can’t rent it out even at £50 a month!”

Steve, who fell in love with Nantwich after buying a canal boat at Swanley Marina, initially looked at opening in the town centre.

“But the shop premises in the centre are just too expensive for a new business like mine to survive,” he said.

“Regents Park is close to the town, the unit is big enough, it’s a lovely setting with parking. It was recommended by a friend, and I’m delighted.”

Steve will stage an official opening of his cycle store tomorrow (Saturday October 27), as well as being involved in the Regents Park Open Day next Saturday November 3.

It’s the latest boost for the park which recently welcomed the new Little Angels nursery.

Wes Heraty, manager of the development, said: “We think Steve’s Cycles will be a great addition to the business centre.

“We are happy to be able to attract established businesses like this to the site.

“We would like to invite the local community to visit Regents Park to see the new Cycle shop and the other community-focused businesses available here.”

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
