Edward Timpson MP launches Wulvern wi-fi scheme

Crewe & Nantwich MP Edward Timpson has pushed the button to launch a new free wi-fi scheme in South Cheshire.

The idea was developed by local housing organisation Wulvern, with help from community group Beech Drive Project, and ISP form Internet Central.

The first roll-out of fast broadband is to 250 residents on the the Sherborne estate in Crewe.

They then hope to expand the project, the first of its kind in the North West, across the rest of Crewe, Nantwich and South Cheshire.

Rob Allen, Wulvern director of partnerships, said: “Internet access improves the quality of life for residents.

“It impacts on a whole range of issues from education, to finding the latest money saving offers.

“Our aim is to make the internet accessible to communities across South Cheshire giving them opportunities and support to get connected.”

Wulvern customer Corinne Readdin, who was previously not in education, employment or training, has been appointed to offer training and advice.

John Bottomley, Beech Drive Project manager, said: “Of the 8.7 million UK adults who have never used the internet, over 4 million are among the most vulnerable in society.

“Our aim is to make the internet accessible to communities in South Cheshire giving them opportunities and support to get connected.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
