Nantwich has scooped a prestigious Silver Gilt award in the RHS Great Britain in Bloom competition.

Judges praised the town, which is one of only six to gain an award in the most competitive category.

More than 400 people attended a prestigious award ceremony hosted by Matt Baker on the island of Guernsey.

Nantwich was one of four to get the Silver Gilt in the “Town” category.

The Gold and overall winner of the category was Halstead, in East Anglia.

Doug Butterill, of Nantwich in Bloom committee, and his wife Cllr Penny Butterill, of Nantwich Town Council, were present at the awards ceremony.

Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Graham Fenton said: “We’d all like to congratulate the Nantwich in Bloom committee and all the volunteers who work so hard.

“The Silver Gilt is a fantastic achievement which the town is very proud of.”

More than 1,200 UK communities, from big cities to tiny villages, take part every year in the RHS competition.

Just 72 finalists were chosen to represent their region/nation in the 2012 UK finals.

A record 24 Gold medals were awarded along with 37 Silver Gilts.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
