Visitors to Nantwich Food and Drink Festival can enjoy a double helping of celebrity chefs.

For star names Brian Mellor and Ruth Clemens will be appearing at the Food Theatre in the town later this month.

Masterchef Mellor and Clemens, star of BBC2’s Great British Bake Off, will be joining top name chefs from local restaurants in taking a turn on the demonstration stage.

Ruth Clemens, celebrity chefThey will be creating British classics and their signature dishes before a seated audience under cover in the event’s new Food Theatre marquee area on the town square over festival weekend, September14-16.

Mellor, who will also act as compere, is an award-winning Master Chef of Great Britain and former head chef at the BBC and Executive Chef at Granada TV.

He now runs a cookery school in a converted Victorian school at Harthill, near Tattenhall.

Clemens, a 2010 runner-up in the popular cake-making TV series, now hosts a cult baking blog “The Pink Whisk”.

Traders have joined forces with festival organisers and Redshift Radio to also secure her appearance in the Cocoa Yard where she will decorate biscuits and sign books.

Festival chairman Deborah Robb said: “We are thrilled to welcome two really big names from the culinary world to Nantwich.

“They are extremely entertaining and whether you are into cooking or not, they are definitely worth seeing. They could well prove the inspiration to turn many people towards cooking as a hobby and healthier lifestyle.”

The Food Theatre is just one of many festival venues.

Others include the Mornflake Food Hall (Civic Hall), Gourmet Food Court (Bowling Green car-park), Food Theatre (town square), White Horse pub car-park, Cocoa Yard and Methodist Church Hall.

Cheshire East Council is the main sponsor of the festival with major support also coming from Mornflake in Crewe.
