A Wistaston mum has raised money for the neonatal unit that cared for all three of her children.
Jo Davies, 31, collected donations from family and friends at the christening of her 20-week-old twins Charlie and Lily at St Mary’s in Nantwich.
And she raised £100 for the One in Eleven Appeal, which needs £1m to create a new neonatal intensive care unit at Leighton Hospital.
The twins and Jo’s daughter Grace, age two-and-a-half, all needed the support of neonatal staff at the hospital.
Jo said: “Everyone at the christening was very generous and we want to say a big thank you.
“We wanted to support the appeal because of the amazing work the neonatal staff do and in some small way to express our gratitude to them.
“Having your baby whisked away shortly after birth is an extremely traumatic and scary experience, but we were reassured by the level of care, professionalism and compassion shown by the neonatal staff.
“Two years later they were there for us again when the twins had problems. They were fantastic.”
Grace was six weeks premature and spent three weeks on the neonatal unit as she needed help to breathe, gain weight and establish feeding.
The twins were born almost full term at 36 weeks, but Lily required critical care as she developed breathing difficulties just a few hours old.
She was also found to have an underlying medical condition, for which she continues to be monitored, but her prognosis is extremely good.
Charlie developed jaundice and stayed mostly with Jo on the maternity ward but needed additional care.
He was also a regular visitor to the neonatal unit along with Grace to check on Lily’s progress.
Jo is helping to run the Buddy Buggies group in September, which runs weekly walks for parents and little ones in Nantwich and other events to raise money for One in Eleven.
Fundraising manager Laura Bailey said: “Jo needed the support of the neonatal unit more than most families.
“Collecting for One in Eleven at the christening was a wonderful idea and we can’t thank Jo and her family enough.”
Around 3,000 babies are born every year in Mid Cheshire Hospitals and approximately one in eleven will need additional support. This ranges from a few hours of special care to a few weeks in an intensive care unit.
The Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity One in Eleven Appeal aims to expand the neonatal unit at Leighton Hospital and enhance facilities, providing more space and comfort for families during difficult times.
