velocity patching pothole repairs in Cheshire East

A new method of tackling potholes has been hailed a success by Cheshire East Council after trials took place in Nantwich.

More trials will take place across the borough with a view to rolling out the new high-tech method.

The new repair system is called “velocity patching”, delivered by two machines.

It means roads and cycle routes do not have to be dug up, so less disruption, repairs are speedier, and machines can get to affected areas much quicker. It’s also cheaper.

This should allow the authority to carry out far more repairs.

This will be a relief to many motorists after road surfaces were badly hit from two harsh winters and recent heavy rains.

There are currently two of these vehicles in operation in Cheshire East. One is slightly smaller and is better suited to urban locations.

Cllr Rod Menlove, Cabinet member in charge of environmental services, said: “Decades of underfunding, coupled with severe winters, general wear and tear and the recent heavy flooding has meant the standard of our roads is not what it should be.

“Velocity patching is one of the innovative techniques we are adopting to remedy the situation.

“It will allow us to repair more potholes in less time and that can only be a good thing for Cheshire East residents.

“The machines will be targeting some of the worst roads in the borough and will be used to rectify problem areas identified through our Local Area Partnerships and residents.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

  1. “Velocity patching” sounds like another description for “quick fix”. Fair enough, saves money etc etc etc in the sort term. But, how long will the quick fix last before the pothole reappears?

Well done to Cheshire Highways – the machine has been in our parish and it’s great to drive over pothole free roads!
