An artist travelling the UK’s canals has been in Nantwich for the latest stage of his “Year of the Boat” project.
Rob Pointon, 29, gave shoppers a glimpse of his work when he painted in the heart of Nantwich town centre.
Together with his fiance Karen, Rob is spending 2012 travelling Britain’s waterways on a narrowboat, producing oil paintings of places of interest on route.
They have already been round the Cheshire ring painting central Manchester, Middlewich, Wheelock and the Anderton Boat Lift.
And they have also explored the Llangollen Canal, painting Wrenbury Mill and the stunning aqueducts on the border with Wales.
Last week, Rob was painting the flotilla of 1,000 boats sailing down the Thames to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
He told Nantwichnews: “We are in Nantwich now before heading down the Shropshire Union Canal to Birmingham.
“We also plan to get to Gloucester, Oxford and London. It is hectic moving and working but a fascinating way to see the country.
“We have enjoyed our visit to Nantwich and chatting with the people of the town. I have had some great feedback from passers-by.
“I want to paint the towns and community linked with the canal rather than just scenes of boats in this project.”
