Nantwich Museum has secured £19,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to stage an exhibition and events programme this summer.

The volunteer-developed exhibition is called “Nantwich under the two Elizabeths”.

It compares and contrasts life in Nantwich in the first Elizabethan period with that of the 1950s and will form part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Museum volunteers will record local people’s memories of Nantwich Coronation celebrations and visitors will be able to listen to them in the exhibition.

The grant will also pay for the temporary exhibition to visit the Lyceum Theatre and Ford Green Hall.

As part of the project, Nantwich Museum volunteers will be trained in oral history, research and evaluation and many of the interpretation panels and other equipment will be used again in future exhibitions at the museum.

The events programme includes Tudor musicians performing on June 3, “Elizabethan Words and Wine” (readings performed by the Nantwich Players) on June 22, fascinating talks on 1950s clothes and Tudor clothes on July 14, and Elizabethan and 1950s food event on August 25.

Nantwich Museum is seeking sponsorship for the project and is offering companies a chance to have their name and logo in the June edition of The Nantwich Link and their logo on the Nantwich Museum website for one year for a £25 donation.

Admission to the museum and most events are free and sponsorship will help to promote the programme.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
