A fundraising teenager and her mum who raised hundreds of pounds for the Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich, have been rewarded for their efforts.
Sophie Webb, 13, and mum Jan, spent months coming up with fundraising activities.
Mum and daughter, from Crewe, raised £680 through cake and refreshment stands at local fetes and a fundraising evening with the ‘Sessions Rhythm and Blues Big Band’.
Now they plan to run a quiz night in May at their local church.
Sophie said: “Although it has been hard work it has been fun.
“I hope the money we’ve raised will help feed and look after some of the animals at Stapeley.”
Sophie’s wants to work with animals and hopefully the RSPCA after finishing her studies.
The family’s love for animals went as far as adopting a rescue dog from the Crewe and Nantwich branch of the RSPCA, which they have named Bobby.
Stapeley Grange manager Lee Stewart said: “What Sophie and Jan have achieved is fantastic. They have both worked really hard to raise this money.
“Such contributions are very much appreciated, especially at a time when the RSPCA is struggling to raise enough income to meet the needs of the ever growing numbers of animals coming in to us.”
Sophie and Jan spent a couple of hours behind the scenes at the centre this week and learned just how hard being a wildlife assistant is, caring for over 6000 admissions each year.
Spring is a busy time with all the orphaned animals they admit.
Lee said: “It is important members of the public think twice before picking up young animals such as fox cubs, deer fawns and fledglings as usually their parents are waiting around the corner, waiting for you to move on.
“The best thing to do is to monitor the situation and if you are still concerned you should seek advice from RSPCA Stapeley Grange, a local rehabilitator or call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.”
