A Nantwich Sainsbury’s worker was among hundreds to join the company’s top boss on the Sport Relief Mile at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium.

Gavin Shell was nominated to run the event with Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King.

Gavin and a team of supporters from the store went to the ground where each store in the region sent a colleague to run a mile.

Mr King, head of J Sainsbury PLC for eight years on March 29, ran as part of a 32-mile challenge for Sports Relief 2012.

He said: “We are hoping to raise £100,000 from these runs for Sports Relief, which is a fantastic organisation both for people at home and in the poorest parts of the world.

“I have been very privileged to visit projects in Africa and India that Sports relief support and you can’t imagine how much difference relatively small sums of money make in people’s lives.”

Mr King is confident the company can beat their 2010 fundraising total of £5.4 million.

He said: “Our objective is to match the 2010 fundraising total. I know times are tough, so we’ll be really pleased on behalf of the run, if we manage it.”

England football legend Gordon Banks also took part in the Britannia Stadium event.

He said: “Sports Relief is an important venture to raise money for any child who is maybe not able to have access to sports or exercise and give them encouragement to go out there and keep themselves fit.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
