Hospice fundraisers have teamed up with South Cheshire firm Mornflake to stage a series of festive charity runs with children and families across the county.
Hundreds of school pupils are looking forward to sporting red noses and antlers as part of another series of Rudolph Runs raising money for St Luke’s Hospice throughout November and December.
This year the campaign has won backing from one of the country’s oldest family businesses as it aims to beat the staggering £40,000 raised for patient care at the hospice in 2018, when 42 schools in South and Mid Cheshire hosted their own runs.
Independent oat miller Mornflake, based in Crewe, will provide porridge to help fuel energetic little legs and grown-ups as they run, jog and walk round school playgrounds, local fields and parks.
A household name for its porridge, granola and muesli products, Mornflake is a long-standing sponsor of Crewe Alexandra FC and the UK Triathlon series.
Marketing manager Richard Jones said: “This is a great opportunity for us to spread the word about the importance of eating a nutritious breakfast and incorporating exercise into a healthy lifestyle while also supporting the vital work of the hospice.
“It’s a fun event which carries another important message. Christmas is about giving. We encourage schools, families and groups to get behind the Rudolph Run 2019.”
There are 18 schools signed up to stage events.
St Anne’s Catholic Primary in Nantwich is one of the first.
There’s interest from football clubs too with Nantwich Town planning a December event with its youth teams.
To get into the festive spirit, every adult and child taking part receives antlers, red noses and porridge sachets. And for teachers, there’s a free Santa suit.
St Luke’s Community Partnerships Manager, Angela Slack, said: “We are delighted to have Mornflake on board as our sponsor this year.
“The Rudolph Run is a fantastic way of raising vital funds for the hospice while having fun and getting fit at the same time.
“Schools and groups can set the date and distance, and use any location available to them.
“We’ll then give them everything they need including reindeer antlers and red noses for all the children taking part, which they can keep afterwards.
“We’ll also provide a Santa suit for the teacher and of course posters and sponsorship envelopes so the children can collect donations from family and friends.
“We can even visit the school or group to speak to the children about the difference their fundraising will make to St Luke’s this Christmas.”
