First-half - Nantwich on the ball (1)

Nantwich Town Ladies first game in the Premier Division of the Cheshire Women’s & Youth Football League ended in defeat at Sandbach, writes Jonathan White.

The Dabbers were beaten 2-1 by their Cheshire rivals, and manager Chris Broad regrets a number of chances they created to win.

Broad said: “I felt we were largely in control despite a number of absentees through holidays and injury.

“We had so many chances, the game could have been out of sight by half time if we had taken them.

“Unfortunately for us, Sandbach were clinical in their spells of control and worked us hard defensively.

“Kara Townsend making outstanding saves on a fair few occasions.

“Despite the pace they had in attack I still felt we had enough to get a winner ourselves towards the end before they got a winner themselves.

“When you miss several chances, miss a penalty and have a goal disallowed you could say it was never going to be our day, but I felt we always looked dangerous until the end.

“Congratulations to Sandbach on the win and we have to work at being more clinical at this level.

“Going into the FA Cup tie next weekend we are going to see how captain Claire Rathbone reacts to some training on Wednesday to see if she can make the squad, she is currently out with a knee injury.

“Kerry Green won’t make it as her knee injury is still keeping her out.

“We need to assess Maddie Jones after she came off early against Sandbach with what looks to be a torn calf, but we hope it turns out to be less serious.

“Didsbury are a higher level than us but if we perform to our level, we can cause problems for any team and that’s what we have to aim to do next weekend.”

Nantwich Town make their debut in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup at the First Qualifying Round this Sunday September 12 away at Didsbury Ladies.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
