Ballroom Boys Act 2 - Strictly stars at Lyceum

Strictly fans in South Cheshire will be delighted with the return of the Ballroom Boys, writes Claire Faulkner.

Ian Waite and Vincent Simone are back with a new tour and show, Act 2, which opens at Crewe Lyceum on September 14.

And after a year spent in lockdown, both are looking forward to getting back on the stage and entertaining an audience.

“We’d finished rehearsing and had our final dress run, and then lockdown happened,” recalled Ian.

“It had a huge impact.”

However, both believe the situation gave them an opportunity to go through the script, make some changes and try new ideas.

“We’ve been involved in every single aspect of the show.

“We chose our favourite dances, we picked out favourite pieces of music and were involved in the costume and set design.

“We wanted to make it bigger and better and more glitzy than before.”

Vincent says he can’t wait to start and is “excited about dancing in front of a live audience again”.

But most of all he wants people to have fun and enjoy a night out in the theatre after a difficult year.

There is a lot of comedy in the show.

“You only have to look at us together and you laugh.

“Ian is the tallest dancer in the world, and I am the shortest dancer in the world. We look funny together!”

Described as a variety show with elegant numbers and classic ballroom dances, Ian believes Act Two has something for everyone.

“It’s fast and upbeat and will keep everyone interested.

“There are comedy dances, a wonderful singer and of course, Vincent performs the Argentine Tango, not once but twice.”

The Lyceum has one of the steepest stages in the country, could this affect their routines?

“It is more difficult to spin on a raked stage,” Ian said.

“But we’ve danced at The Lyceum before, so we know what to expect.”

Vincent agreed saying that you can lose your balance when you spin and lift on a steep stage, but “it would be value for money if I fell into the audience. The people who came to see me, would be able to touch me”.

If you want to see if Vincent manages to stay on stage you’ll have to be at The Lyceum on September 14, tickets are available via the website here.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
