drop and go - Nantwich Mayor, Cllr Pam Kirkham and Food Festival Volunteers sorting donations (1)

Organisers of the fifth “drop and go” in aid of Nantwich Foodbank have hailed the event a massive success after almost two tonnes of food was donated.

The sun shone for the 10 Food Festival volunteers who ran the collection at Brine Leas School in aid of the town’s Foodbank clients.

Donations were dropped off from all over the area across the town and as far afield as Wrenbury and Sandbach.

Almost two tonnes of essential foods, toiletries and cleaning materials were donated, an impressive tally, showing that, as always, the people of Nantwich and surrounding area support those in need.

Nantwich Mayor Cllr Pam Kirkham was busy throughout playing a key role in sorting donations.

Also present was David Pritchard, of Applewood Independent, one of the Festival’s main and longstanding sponsors.

New Nantwich Foodbank manager Damien Geir and his colleagues were also there.

Items were collected and sorted before being loaded into the Foodbank vehicle for transporting to the Nantwich Foodbank to prepare for allocation to individual families in time for Easter.

Emily Vaughan, warehouse manager for Nantwich Foodbank, said: “What can I say! It’s been another incredible event manned and organised by Food Festival team and another amazing show of support from the local community.

“After completing the weigh in at our storeroom I have tallied up the weights.

“The 3.5 van loads were equivalent to 134 crates full which has provided us with 1900 kilo of food.

“It’s incredible, and once again the promotion of specific food items needed has really worked. We could not be happier.”

Maureen Coulter, on behalf of the Food Festival team, added: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of the day, and wish to thank all those who donated produce.

“The publicity from the local media and Cat FM Community Radio has been essential in publicising this event, and we thank them sincerely.

“Without their support we are confident that this would not have been the great success that it was.

“We are pleased that we could collectively support another essential local organisation, and are delighted that Nantwich Foodbank clients will benefit from the generosity of local people.”

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
