Nantwich remains under a Floor Alert along the River Weaver catchment after more heavy rain and the forecast of snow this weekend, writes Hannah Youds.
The Environment Agency has placed the Weaver Catchment on Flood Alert along its stretch including Crewe, Frodsham, Winsford and Northwich.
“We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the River Weaver,” says the Environment Agency
“Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further updates where necessary.
“This information will be updated as the situation changes.”
Cheshire East Highways says: “Although Cheshire East has, so far, escaped the degree of flooding experienced elsewhere in the region, groundwater levels are high.
“Large areas of land remain saturated after Storm Christoph brought a month’s worth of rain in just two days.
“Teams have been engaged in a pattern of near constant gritting because of snow and ice, while also dealing with flooding on the borough’s roads.
“No one should enter flood water owing to hidden dangers and contamination.”
Many rural roads and lanes have been badly affected, with some closures and winter weather leaving many pothole-ridden.
With more heavy rain and possibly some snow expected on Saturday and Sunday, residents are being warned to brace themselves for more closures and disruption.
They are advised to call the council to report any damage that is made to businesses or homes.
During working hours, you can call 0300 123 5020, or 0300 123 5025 during normal hours.
