season - Kindertons - Nantwich Town celebrate goal against Stalybridge celtic

Nantwich Town chairman Jon Gold has called the decision to null and void the current season as “frustrating and disappointing”.

The Northern Premier League’s proposal to scrap the season still has to be ratified by the FA Council, however it’s felt this will be a formality.

All games at Steps 3-6 in the national league system have been postponed during national lockdowns, which has left a huge backlog.

The Dabbers have only played six league matches in total, currently sitting 15th in the league.

Mr Gold said it is the correct decision and one that the club “wholly supports” to protect the health and safety of staff, management, volunteers, players and supporters.

He added: “This will obviously have another devastating financial impact on the club, both in the immediacy and in our ability to prepare a team and the stadium for next season, whenever and whatever format that will take, is confirmed.

“So the club will again be hopeful and sincerely appreciative of any support and help that you are able to provide.

“We are mindful of the sacrifices and support everyone has already given to the club over this past year.

“To this end, those of you who have again purchased season tickets for the current season and prior to it being curtailed, have only seen three home league games, will have their season tickets carried over and honoured in full for next season.”

Mr Gold said the Covid Vaccine programme offers more hope that the 2021-22 season will start on time and be completed as normal.

“We are confident that with this on the horizon the 2021/22 season once it commences (and hopefully it’s a much earlier start then normal) will be able to complete safely and uninterrupted.

“As soon as there is confirmation of when this will be, we will begin making plans.

“But as we won’t be able to rely on season ticket sales and existing sponsors for our normal pre-season cash flow and investment needed, we will once again need a mammoth effort from everyone and the community to help us to ensure we are fit, ready and viable to recommence our journey of building on the fantastic success’s and development that we have enjoyed in recent years.”

Mr Gold thanked all businesses, individuals, volunteers and supporters who have supported the club in the past 10 months.

“There is now light at the end of this very dark tunnel and together as a community, we will all be able to enjoy coming together at the start of next season and hopefully that will be in the very near future,” he added.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
