The RSPCA is appealing for help to trace the owner of a dog found dumped in a layby near Nantwich.
The body of the white Jack Russell terrier was found by a member of the public wrapped in a sheet and by the side of Poole Hill Road.
The male dog was wrapped in a grey and white checkered sheet and was found on Sunday (December 20)
RSPCA inspector Nadine Pengilly is keen to find the entire male dog’s owner.
She said: “He was in good body condition and had no obvious injuries or signs of trauma so I don’t believe he’s been hit by a car.
“A vet examined the body and carried out x-rays but couldn’t find any obvious cause of death so I don’t suspect any suspicious circumstances around how he died.
“He’s been wrapped up in a sheet and dumped here deliberately so there’s a possibility he died of natural causes and his owners weren’t sure how to dispose of him correctly or couldn’t afford to do so.
“Unfortunately he wasn’t microchipped so we’ve not been able to trace an owner yet.
“I’m concerned there may be a family out there looking for him so I’d like to try to help him find his way home.”
