Stapeley pupils harvesting for Nantwich Foodbank

Pupils at Pear Tree Primary School in Stapeley have been collecting food to support Nantwich Foodbank as part of their annual Harvest celebrations.

During the two weeks of the collection each class collected a specific item.

And they were delighted to hand their bounty over to staff from the Nantwich Foodbank.

Pear Tree headteacher Boo Edleston said: “We know that the work of the Foodbank is vital and more than ever now we all need to look to support our community.

“We appreciate that the collection is more challenging under lockdown restrictions.

“But our parents have been superb in cleaning cans or sending them in, in sealed bags and we have quarantined everything before sending it on this morning.

“It is important that we try to find solutions wherever we can so that our pupils are still engaging in charitable actions which help them to value their community and reiterate how together we are stronger.

“We know that school has to make changes right now but we need to keep finding solutions so the we can still instill in our pupils the ability to everyday ‘be their best selves’.”

The school is now also offering virtual tours to prospective parents looking for reception places in September 2021.

Ruth Hadfield, deputy headteacher, added: “Currently we can’t take prospective parents and their children around the school in person.

“So working with Open House estate agents, we have had a 360 deg tour produced in the same way that Open House would photograph a house for sale.

“This allows us to now invite parents via Zoom and talk them through the tour as well as sharing with them an aerial tour of the field and outside space produced by a local drone pilot.

“We know it’s a little different but still feel it gives parents a great opportunity to see the inside of each classroom and ask questions about what we can offer.”
