Artist - Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge - window display

A talented local artist has been showcasing his work in Nantwich town centre, writes Jonathan White.

Tony Winterbottom, 55, from Nantwich, has a selection of his artwork on display in the shop window of the Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge.

The display is a collaboration between the artist and the High Street business.

The prominent display includes framed examples of Tony’s sketchwork of authors, singers and inspirational people alongside a book relating to that same person.

Examples include former British Army officer and centenarian fund-raiser Captain Sir Tom Moore with ‘Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day: My Autobiography’, British television producer and presenter Richard Osman with ‘The Thursday Murder Club’, and Sunday Times bestselling author Adam Hamdy with ‘Black 13’.

Tony is a recovering alcoholic who has been in recuperation for just over a year.

Alcoholism took away his interest in sketching, among other things, but now he is in sobriety he chooses to draw not drink.

Tony produces a range of bespoke black and white graphite sketches.

Genres he covers includes pets, portraits, celebrities, architecture, and landscapes.

The display was officially unveiled on World Mental Health Day on October 10.

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

Tony said: “The opportunity to showcase some of my work is a personal milestone in my journey.

“Hopefully, it demonstrates that recovery is possible, and if my story inspires or helps just one other person to realise the same, then the collaboration with Steve & Denise Lawson of the Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge will be a success.”

Denise Lawson, Nantwich Bookshop & Coffee Lounge, said: “It’s fabulous to be collaborating with talented locals to promote reading. Tony’s story is an inspiration to us all.”

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
