A well-known Christmas Lights display in South Cheshire which has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a children’s hospice, is to be turned into a “drive thru” due to Covid.
Graham Witter has staged the Weston Christmas Lights show at his family’s farm for the past seven years, raising well over £100,000 in aid of Donna Louise Hospice.
But due to the crowds it has attracted in the past at the farm in Weston, it was not able to go ahead as normal.
Instead, they are planning to stage a drive-thru “Starlit Garden”.
Graham (pictured) said: “It’s been a pretty tough year for everyone, so we wanted to be able to still bring happiness, love, and cheer to our community this Christmas.
“But with social distance measures in place, we’ve had to think really carefully about the best way to keep our visitors safe.
“By holding a drive-thru event, it means that people can still enjoy the lights and decorations, but from the safety of their own car.
“There will still be all the things that people love about the Weston Christmas Light Display, including our animated display, with thousands of twinkling lights and decorations.
“Visitors will also be able to enjoy a #festiveicecream and Santa will still be here, but this year he’ll be doing a special “Santa Wave” ever Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening.
“I’m also very excited to announce that we’re also launching a brand new #NameAStar initiative, where the local community can remember a loved one or celebrate a local hero this Christmas.
“Our 20ft Starlit Christmas tree will be surrounded by 150 hand-made, metal stars, each containing the name of someone special.”
The ‘Starlit Garden’ will be a vehicle drive-thru event between December 1-28 and Graham will once again be raising money for The Donna Louise Hospice.
This is the eighth year that Graham has organised the display in memory of his sister Jessica, who had a great fascination for colour, light and sound and received respite care at The Donna Louise.
Over the last seven years, he has raised £124,850 for families who rely on The Donna Louise for care, support and respite services.

“This has been a really tough year for everyone and it would have been understandable for Graham to cancel the event completely.
“But his commitment to putting on a magical event which everyone can enjoy, in a safe way, while raising money for a cause so close to his heart, is inspiring.”
The Weston Light Display will shine bright between 1st – 28th December (6.15pm-9pm) at Carters Green Farm, Jack Lane, Weston.
