The former Premier League defender is hoping to play for a club in the EFL when the delayed new starts in mid September.

He was taking part in training drills and having a kick about with U16s youth star Radcliffe.

Sky Sports News paid a trip down Waterlode to interview Ayala and see where he was training.

Ayala, who is expected to sign a new contract with a football league club, acknowledged how much of a role “grass roots” football plays in the the football pyramid.

And he praised Nantwich Town and all at the Weaver Stadium for allowing him to train at their facility.

As for Alex – he was thrilled to be training alongside a top professional footballer and enjoyed the session.

Ayala spent four years at Anfield, signing in 2007 as a youth player before leaving in 2011 to join Norwich City.

He also played on loan at Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Hull City before signing for Middlesborough in 2014 where he played for six years, making 176 appearances and scoring 18 goals.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
