Dear Editor,
Has anyone else noticed that every time Cllr Sam Corcoran, Leader of Cheshire East Council, is criticised for his lack of leadership, or his infringements of freedom of speech, or his erosion of democracy, he immediately harps back to “appalling behaviour of Conservatives”?
This is a convenient method of deflecting.
Five years ago, there were problems, four years ago Cllr Rachel Bailey took the bull by the horns and began the process of redress.
By 2020 we (the whole council) welcomed a report from the Local Government Association complimenting the Council on “the remarkable progress that has been made in improving the workforce culture in a relatively short space of time”.
This “remarkable progress” did not begin 14 months ago as Cllr Corcoran persists in promoting and it is not simply due to the political leadership from any party.
The road to improvement was designed and implemented by officers, external advisors, politicians and the good will and determination of everyone. It was a team effort.
Cllr Corcoran’s cries of “appalling behaviour” are from past days and will not silence my criticisms, I won’t be bullied into submission by the suggestion that to critique is to offend.
I object to him referring to the Conservative Party as “the nasty party” (Congleton Chronicle 16/7/20).
I object to the inference that by association I am nasty. I object to the perpetual backward facing regurgitations.
I request that the current leader of Cheshire East Council steps out of the past as the rest of us have, and that he move forward with optimism and energy.
Cllr Mrs E Wardlaw
Odd Rode Ward
Cheshire East Council
Do councillors actually talk to each other? Judging by the number of “letters” published here it sees as though this website is their primary means of communication.
