Citizens Advice Cheshire East has hailed its army of volunteers who have helped keep the service operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team rallied to ensure many people could be helped over the phone or via webchat as many individuals faced financial, housing and employment worries.
The service has 65 volunteers who work an estimated 390 hours each week between them.
In the last year, Citizens Advice Cheshire East has helped 6,114 people with 17,221 problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues.
Will Litchfield, one of the volunteers, said: “Since being retired early, I’ve been a volunteer adviser and latterly a supervisor.
“After years serving big business, it is really satisfying to be able to serve the community now.
“Of course Covid -19 has changed things a lot but we quickly moved to dealing with emails and phone calls queries from home, so the good work goes on.”
Liz Shaw, Chief Officer, said: “Throughout the year our wonderful volunteers contribute their time and energy to make a huge difference to people’s lives and help keep our vital service running.
“Whether they have been able to continue in their role recently, or have paused their volunteering, their support throughout the year has been truly invaluable.
“I cannot thank them enough for their continued dedication. We really couldn’t do it without them.”
The service aims to start interviewing for a new intake of volunteers in September.
