A second person has died at Leighton Hospital after testing positive for Coronavirus, officials have confirmed.

The woman died on Sunday night. She had been admitted suffering from pneumonia.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, Chief Executive, James Sumner said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a woman who was being cared for at Leighton Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

“The patient, who died on Sunday, was in her 60s and had underlying health conditions.

“Her family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

It’s believed the woman was from the Northwich area but has relatives in Nantwich.

The first patient who died on Sunday after testing positive was a man in his 60s, who officials say also had underlying health conditions.

Dr Matt Tyrer, acting director of public health at Cheshire East Council, said: “Sadly, we have today been informed that a woman being cared for at Leighton Hospital, who had tested positive for Covid-19, has died.

“The patient, who died on Sunday, was in her 60s and had underlying health conditions. Her family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this distressing and difficult time.

“Given the latest scientific evidence around Covid-19 and its infectiousness, the likelihood is that, sadly, there will be more deaths from this virus in the borough.”

People are urged to adopt good respiratory and hand hygiene to prevent risk of infection and a ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach to coughs and sneezes.

People are also advised to avoid contact with anyone who is unwell and showing symptoms of coronavirus.

If you are experiencing symptoms including a high temperature and a new, continuous cough, stay at home for seven days.

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you’re staying at home.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Is anyone doing anything to support vulnerable people in Nantwich during the Covid issue? I’m a healthy 57 year old between jobs at the moment, and would be able to help or organise food deliveries to people in isolation. This is going to get a lot worse in the next few weeks with the prevailing level if hysteria.
