A 19th century timber framed mansion near Nantwich has been badly damaged by fire.

Crews across Cheshire were called to the blaze at Tilstone Fearnall on Nantwich road, south of Tarporley.

Fire broke out at around 8.30pm last night (January 12), and crews fought the fire through the night.

They were still on the scene at 5.30pm today.

Ten fire engines have been in attendance from Tarporley, Nantwich, Chester, Winsford, Crewe, Ellesmere Port and Northwich along with an aerial appliance from Chester.

Due to the scale of the fire an addition six fire engines were dispatched along with an aerial appliance from Chester.

The building was split into sectors and firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to tackle the fire from within the building.

An aerial appliance and main jet was also used to extinguish the fire from above.

Firefighters undertook salvage operation to help recover any furniture.

The main A51, Nantwich Road, was closed in both directions during the night while firefighters tackled the fire.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The A51 was re-opened at around 8am today with temporary lights in place.

Crews spent the day reviewing the building with the aerial ladder platform for hotspots, and removed loose roof timbers.

Investigators from Cheshire Fire and Rescue are now looking into the cause of the blaze.
